Car Not Accelerating

Over time, the performance of your vehicle may decline. In some cases, you may notice that your acceleration is not working correctly. Not only is this frustrating, but it can be downright dangerous as well. Our service team recommends bringing in your car as soon as you notice acceleration problems. In the meantime, here are a few common reasons that you may be having this issue.

1.) Faulty Oxygen or MAF Sensors

To function properly, your engine needs to be fed the proper mixture of air and fuel. When the mass airflow or oxygen filter becomes dirty, the mixture can be thrown off. This will reduce your vehicle's ability to accelerate properly.

2.) Dirty Air Filters

A dirty air filter can also prevent your engine from receiving the airflow that it needs. This is why vehicle manufacturers have recommendations for how often the engine air filter should be changed. If you notice that you cannot increase your speed quickly, a dirty air filter may be the culprit.

3.) Clogged Fuel Filters

Your engine needs to get fuel along with air. Sometimes, it is a clogged filter that is behind your acceleration problems. The purpose of this filter is to keep impurities from reaching your engine, which is why we recommend having yours checked often. Replacing a fuel filter is a simple task that we often perform here.

4.) Malfunctioning TPS

The throttle position sensor is crucial for proper acceleration. It tells your engine's computer what adjustments need to be made in response to your actions at the wheel. When the TPS malfunctions, your vehicle's performance will be negatively impacted.
