What's New For The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban?

The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is the original SUV which was first introduced in 1935, and is now in the 5th and final year of its 11th-generation model. Instead of resting on its laurels, Chevy has added features, most notably a new RST Performance Package for Premier trims that includes an upgraded V8 engine and advanced transmission system. Check out the standard features and upgrades below.

2019 Chevrolet Suburban Interior

The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is Feature-Rich Across Several Trims

Chevrolet offers LS, LT and Premier (1LZ) trims on the 2019 Suburban with either 2WD or 4WD. All Suburban models come with basic side assist steps and roof rails, but the manual liftgate of the LS trim is replaced by a power option on the LT and a motion-sensing feature with Premium. Other Premium extras are heated side mirrors, fog lights and HID headlights. 18-inch wheels are standard on LS and LT trims, with 20-inch wheels for Premium and options for 20- and 22-inch wheels available in each trim.

All trims come with a locking rear differential for better road traction and an enormous 31-gallon fuel tank for longer excursions without stops. The LS and LT use a standard Premium Ride Suspension for smoother travel, and steps up the comfort for Premium trims with a Magnetic Ride Control system. The roomy, car-like interior can be fitted with from 7-9 seats, and has over 39 cubic feet of space behind the third row. Cloth upholstery is standard with the LS, while the LT and Premium add the option of heated and cooled leather seats and 2 captains' chairs instead of the standard 3-seat bench. 2019 also sees a new exterior color addition of Shadow Gray Metallic.

No-chrome visual "street" enhancements of the RST Edition are available with the LT and Premier trims, but the big story for 2019 is the new Premium-only RST Performance Package. This RST option actually upgrades performance with a 6.2L V8 engine. To complete the upgrade, Chevy adds 10-speed automatic transmission, 170-amp alternator, a revised 3.23 axle ratio, high-capacity air filter, and JL1 trailer brake controls. 4WD vehicles also added a 2-speed transfer case.

What is the Power & Performance Like for the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban?

The Premium RST Performance Package upgrades to a 6.2L V8 engine with a horsepower jump from 355 to 420 and a torque increase to a maximum 460 lb-ft. The upgraded engine also gets bumped to a 10-speed transmission.
