Chevrolet Awarded $165,000 in Scholarships to 2022 HBCU Marketing and Journalism Interns

Chevrolet and the National Newspaper Publishers Association Partnership

Chevrolet and the National Newspaper Publishers Association concluded their Discover the Unexpected. It is the sixth year of this 10-week intern scholarship program. It included eleven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) students. Five worked in marketing, and six in journalism. The program is designed to immerse participants in marketing roles. They are focused on General Motors' vision for an all-electric future. The focus of the NNPA was journalism. The program began with an orientation. Participants learned about the history and mission of both organizations. They also had the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the media industry. They toured several newsrooms. They met with representatives from key organizations, such as:

  • The National Association of Black Journalists
  • The National Press Club
  • The Radio and Television News Directors Association

After the program, participants received a scholarship from Chevrolet. It is to continue their education. They also had the opportunity to share their experiences with the broader community. It was through articles they wrote for the program.
