GMC, Buick, Chevrolet Vehicle Service Warning Indicators

There are a variety of dashboard warning lights/indicators, each with its own purpose. These lights warn the driver of any servicing the vehicle may require and are crucial for maintaining a well-functioning and safe vehicle. These are ten warning lights and what they indicate.

Airbag Fault

This warning light could be indicating an issue with the airbag or an issue with the seatbelt system. The warning also turns on when the front airbag(s) has been deactivated.

Low Fuel Level Warning Light

As the name suggests, this warning activates when the fuel tank is running too low. If you see this light, It means that you will need to refill the gas tank very soon.

Oil Pressure Warning Light

The oil pressure warning light turns on when there is a loss of oil pressure. This warning light means that there is very little or no lubrication left. Seek immediate service. Continued driving may severely damage the engine.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

The TPMS, or Tire Pressure Monitoring System, light will alert the driver when the pressure in a tire has reached low levels. This warning light could indicate under-inflated tires as well. Low pressure in your vehicle’s tires can produce dangerous driving conditions.

Slip Indicator

Slip Indicator

Once the car activates the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and/or the Traction Control (TRAC) to stabilize the vehicle, the slip indicator warning light will alert the driver that these two systems are currently operating. If the light remains on, this could be indicating an issue with these systems.

Charging System Warning Light

If this light comes on, it means that the charging system is malfunctioning or running out of power. This light will usually activate if the control system detects an alternator or battery issue.

Brake System

This indicator illuminates for varying reasons: your parking brake is on, low brake fluid, or ABS problems. If it is continuously lit, this indicates the loss of hydraulic pressure in the brake system or a low fluid level in the master cylinder, which can be caused by a leak in the system.

Open Door Warning Light

When the car is started and one of the doors isn’t fully shut, this warning light will alert the driver to it. Before you start moving, check that all doors and trunk are closed securely.

Coolant Level Warning

If the temperature of the engine exceeds acceptable limits, this warning light will turn on in the dashboard. This light is indicating a low level of coolant, which could be due to a leak, and is alerting you to refill the coolant tank immediately.
